Octopath Traveler Sequel Console Game Development Update Shared by Square Enix Via Famitsu https://ift.tt/3opcphw
Square Enix and Acquire shared a new development update on the Octopath Traveler sequel on consoles, via this week’s Famitsu magazine.
As we get closer to the release of Octopath Traveler Champions of the Continent in Japan on October 28, this week’s Famitsu magazine (officially titled Weekly Famitsu Magazine November 5, 2020 Issue) included an interview with the game’s staff.
Octopath Traveler Tairiku no Hasha, which can be translated to Champions of the Continent, is a prequel to the original, and is a single player full fledged JRPG experience, despite being on Mobile and having gacha elements. It’ll even have an actual ending at launch. We translated here most of the interview, focusing on the prequel. The producers also brought up the development hurdles Bravely Default 2 faced.
Back when this prequel was first announced in March 2019, developing studio Acquire mentioned it’s also working on a new Octopath Traveler console game. And how we should play this mobile game as we wait for it. The Famitsu interview, with Tomoya Asano, Planning, Producer, and Yuuki Yokoyama, Producer, both at Square Enix, included new comments regarding this sequel. Tomoya Asano said it’ll take a little while more until we get news about it.
Tomoya Asano: “I’m looking forward to playing Tairiku no Hasha myself at launch. As for the next Octopath Traveler console game we mentioned in the past, it looks like it’ll take a little while until we can reveal more information. Sorry about this. For now, I would be grateful if our console games fans would check out the upcoming Bravely Default II.”
Nothing was revealed about the Octopath Traveler sequel besides its existence, so we don’t know what kind of name the game will have. Whether it’ll be Octopath Traveler 2 or something else. Moreover, I’m calling it a sequel for convenience, but it wasn’t confirmed to be a sequel, and so far Square Enix only said it’s a “new Octopath Traveler console game”.

Personally speaking I have high hopes for the next Octopath console game. Hoping it’ll have an even cooler battle system, and fix flaws like the unequal quality of the protagonists’ stories and the incredibly boringly designed maps the original game dares to calls “dungeons”. I’ll definitely be trying out Tairiku no Hasha as well and see how it compares to the original.
Octopath Traveler Tairiku no Hasha was only announced in Japan. However, Square Enix teased an English version. The original Octopath Traveler shipped over 2 million copies too.
