Chiyomaru Shikura Explains Anonymous;Code and Its Protagonist Who Can Save and Load Like Players https://ift.tt/30whGd5
A huge interview with Mages’ Chiyomaru Shikura is included in this week’s Famitsu magazine, where he most notably talks about Anonymous;Code, the latest game in the Science Adventure Series.
Anonymous;Code was first announced alongside Steins;Gate Zero and Occultic;Nine in March 2015. The other two have released for a while now, but Anonymous;Code never saw the light of the day and keeps getting delayed. For now the game is planned to launch on PS4, PlayStation Vita, and Switch, “Next Winter”. Chiyomaru Shikura mentioned the game will get a new announcement in 2020, where we’ll learn more about its release schedule. We translated that part of the interview below:
Chiyomaru Shikura: “I deeply apologize for making you all wait this long. The game is gradually taking shape and we’re making various corrections to it. Because it was supposed to release three years ago, and science and gadgets change and evolve every day, there are many elements and jokes we included in the past that are now outdated. So we’re fixing that. Also, while the Science Adventure games aren’t sequels to each other, they’re all in the same universe, which needs to be consistent. So we’re making sure there’s nothing which contradicts the other games. All this takes a lot of time and work. We’ll have an announcement before 2020 ends regarding Anonymous;Code and its release schedule. Please look forward to it.”
Chiyomaru Shikura also shared some new details on Anonymous;Code, most notably that it’s protagonist Polon has the supernatural power of being able to load and save. What’s interesting is how these are the actual same load and save functions the players will use. So there are scenes when Polon talks to the player, noticing there are new saves in the data that he didn’t do himself.
This also means if the player doesn’t save before a certain scene, and Polon doesn’t either, you won’t be able to redo this scene anymore. However, Chiyomaru Shikura said the game will have some sort of special trick to make sure the players never get stuck. This will also serve to help players who never save and only rely on Polon’s saves.
The scenario branches depending on how you use Save and Load, and also depending on other functionalities such as the Manga Trigger.
Chiyomaru Shikura: “Anonymous;Code was developed with the assumption that it’ll get an anime adaptation one day, so there are tons of action scenes. However it’s still an ADV, so you’ll have to imagine said movement and action scenes with the text. In order to make it more dynamic, we adapted a manga style. Players are able to pick certain dialogues lines and frames appearing in the manga, influencing the story to a certain degree. This is the Manga Trigger. The character designer of Anonymous;Code, Haruhisa Nakata, is also a mangaka, so he did a great job with conveying all of the characters’ feelings during Manga Trigger.”

In the same interview, Chiyomaru Shikura also mentioned that once Anonymous;Code is released, he’d like to do a Science Adventure Series huge crossover game similar to a Super Robot Wars game, where all the characters would interact with each other.
We aren’t done covering this interview so stay tuned.
