PS5 Said Not To Have PS1, PS2, PS3 Backwards Compatibility In Removed Ubisoft Support Page

Despite releasing this holiday season, there is a lot we don’t know about the upcoming systems from Sony and Microsoft. Mainly, the exact launch date, as well as what the price will be. Granted, those are also probably the two most important things, but here we are. One thing we don’t know about in regards to Sony’s system also is the extent of its backwards compatibility. While we know it will be BC with most of the PS4 library, what about beyond? Well, at this point, it seems unlikely, and another source points to that unlikeliness.

Some eagle-eyed internet sleuths noticed that via a Ubisoft support listing, it mentioned that the system was not backwards compatible. Specifically, it was speaking about multiplayer titles, with the exact wording being, “Backwards compatibility will be available for supported PlayStation 4 titles, but will not be possible for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, or PlayStation games.”

It’s worth mentioning that this page has now been removed (but not before being reported on by sites such as Wccftech), so it could have been a mistake. It also could have been more of a the page going live a little earlier than it was supposed to. Microsoft has been open about their BC offerings, which reach back all the way to select titles from the original Xbox release. The fact that Sony hasn’t mentioned anything beyond PS4 seems to point to that being the only BC in store. We’ll find out soon enough the truth, or at least, hopefully we will.
